Clever Editing

ACTION MATCH
My Part In this task was to act and edit. This task went extremely well as we just got straight on with it, and knew exactly what we were doing.   The task was well organised. we took several takes and took what we needed for the final edit, which makes editing much easier and more efficient.

How has the media changed due to the arrival of internet?

The Internet is actually only an extremely modern invention, and has only been used by the public for just over 20 years. Although the basic applications and guidelines that make the Internet possible had existed for almost two decades, the network did not gain a public face until the 1990s.

Media has changed greatly since then. Before the Internet, if you wanted to watch TV, you had to watch it when it was broad casted, and if you missed it there was no catching up on it. Now there are websites such as 4oD, which is a website which allows you to watch any programme which has been shown on Channel 4, or iPlayer which allows you to catch up on any programme which has been shown on the BBC recently, which includes BBC One, Two, Three, Four, CBBC, Cbeebies, News, Parliament, HD, Or Alba. You can almost watch almost anything on websites such as www.youtube.com

The Internet doesn't just let us watch tv. We can also view news or newspapers online, use social networking sites, do research... the Options are never ending. Media is now online. If i want to know news, i dont buy a newspaper, i look on google. If i want to find out how a relative is i dont phone them i facebook them. If i want to listen to music i dont listen to CD's i go on spotify.

Wikipedia States: "Most traditional communications media including telephone, music, film, and television are reshaped or redefined by the Internet, giving birth to new services such as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IPTV. Newspaper, book and other print publishing are adapting to Web site technology, or are reshaped into blogging andweb feeds. The Internet has enabled or accelerated new forms of human interactions through instant messagingInternet forums, and social networkingOnline shoppinghas boomed both for major retail outlets and small artisans and traders."

The Chase

I do think the final edit of The Chase would have been of a slightly higher standard had we planned the story board better and also managed our time properly. Unfortunately we ran out of filming time before we had finished the whole storyboard so the video can feel slightly unfinished. However, the acting was exactly as directed, and the storyboard covered the task.
My contribution was to act in The Chase. I drew the story board, and contributed in the editing phase. I learned from this task that time management and planning is extremely important and that you shouldn't get distracted from the task in hand. I wouldn't say this task was a waste of time because i learned lots from it. In the future i would do the planning differently and make sure we got the task done.

One Perspective...

We named this video "Esther". In this video I think the planning and story boarding went well, which was reflected when we began to film; each member of the group new exactly what their role was and what they were meant to be doing. This meant there was no time wastage when it came to filming and editing. The group worked together very well and everyone put forward their views of how we should conduct the filming, which meant the final film contains some of every one's ideas.

Also the video has been edited very skillfully. After filming when we looked at what we had recorded, it was noticed that we had filmed much too much unnecessary footage, such as Esther walking for long periods of time, which would have been boring for the audience. Clips such as this were cut out during editing. Also the video has been put to a very appropriate song, which tugs at the heartstrings of the audience.

My Contribution was to act the main character. I played Esther, which obviously was a big commitment because i had to try and get into character and act for a large part of the film. I also helped with the final edit, and lots of the planning. I drew the story board and directed parts of the filming. I feel this is the task i was most involved with and i enjoyed it very much for this reason. I acquired skills such as knowledge of camera shots, how to cut during editing, and also how to work together to get the film to the highest possible standard through our acting and planning.

i cannot think of anything i would do differently another time because i feel this task went completely to plan.

Lighting Task

I Think the lighting task went very well, mainly because we were completely concentrated during filming, and Idowu, (The main character) really got into the acting role. The video is very convincing, she appears to be absolutely terrified, which is what we were aiming for. The whole group could be involved with the filming so no body was left out or bored. The lighting was used very effectively, which was what was the point of the task. One of my own personal highlights was the very last clip. when the torch was just left lying, still on, on the floor which was very effective.

I was involved in acting in the task, as well as editing and helping to create the sound effects. I acquired tasks such as understanding how to use light to create dramatic effects on camera. if i had the opportunity maybe in future i would do the filming earlier in the day so we had more time to edit but apart from that i think the task went very well.
